Start of Something New

(yeah, the title to this post is also a High School Musical song)
1. After searching for over 4 months, I found a job that is perfect for me! I started applying for jobs seriously a month or two before I graduated from college. I applied for any job I found remotely interesting. I did have a few interviews, but nothing really worked out until last week. I accepted an offer to be an AmeriCorps member through my local American Red Cross. I found a passion of mine, service and volunteer work, in a job! And working with kids!
For a year, I get to teach health, safety, and disaster classes to different groups of kids! I also get to plan and organize my own schedule and work with local Red Cross Clubs (like those at high schools/ Jr. highs)! I'm so excited for the position and all I've done is sign my paperwork and get fingerprinted (I had to have multiple background checks)! I can't wait for my first day!

2. In late Sept., I'm going to Joplin, MO to help with tornado clean-up with a group from my church. I'm excited since I've never really gone on a mission trip (I think of Chicago and NYC as service trips) before. I'm also excited to see the damage that I've seen on TV in real life - not that I want damage, but I've never really seen real tornado damage before so I want to see the power of weather with my own eyes. I'm excited to meet the other volunteers (we are staying in this place that provides beds, showers, and meals to over 100 volunteers) and the citizens of Joplin. My grandma is also going (it is her first mission trip ever!) so it will be fun to experience this service together!

3. I've been preparing this week to teach 3rd grade Sunday school. I get to come up with my own curriculum for a few weeks while they learn about the Bibles that they get. It is exciting to use my past working with kids to come up with activities that would help them learn about the Bible and have fun. I can't wait for it to start so I can finally meet my kids!
