This week will be spent preparing to go on my Road Rulz - New York Trip (again through Camp Shalom). This trip will again be for high school aged campers and we will complete some volunteer work in New York City as well as explore the life and culture of New Yorkers. I'm so excited for this trip, but I am a bit nervous too. I've never been to New York and I'm not excited for the drive (but I am preparing a variety of CD mixes to make the trip more fun). I'm so excited for the work we are doing with a summer day camp and the sights we are going to visit (Coney Island, Staten Island Ferry, Time's Square, Bronx Zoo, Central Park...)
I also recently got a permanent job! I was thinking of going on a mission trip through my church but with the price and my new job, I will not be participating in that one. I'm looking into some other things though. I signed up to help in my church's community garden with my siblings for a week in July. That will be a fun project because all the food that is grown is given to the community. I'm also planning on volunteering to teach Sunday School at my church this next school year. It will give me a slight taste of camp life (which I will be missing a lot after New York) and an opportunity to work with some neat kids! I taught Sunday School while I was in high school (to complete the service learning hours required by my high school) and I really enjoyed the experience. I'm excited at the opportunity to get more involved in my community and create some connections as I develop into a "real adult person".
I also just added some of my favorite website links to the bottom of my blog. Some of them are philanthropy/service related and others are not - they are just some things that I enjoy reading.
I must get back to New York/1st day of work preparations!
