Road Rulz - NYC (Day 4)

Tuesday started with some very yummy breakfast burritos and a subway ride to day camp. It was our first day to really lead at day camp. The camp day started with Day Break - we taught the NYC kids some of our Iowa camp songs (some of them were familiar though - it was neat to see how we sung some of the same songs, but in different ways). Then we led bible study which started with a fun game of Ships and Shores (Creation style) and ended with reading the story and asking questions. I enjoyed comparing the differences in bible study at Camp Shalom and the day camp. Then we lead a craft (which was my main responsibility) where the kids created their own planets. They were so creative! They thought of so many things that I would have never thought of with a just a few materials. We also visited the park that day for games and experienced Vita and Ishmael (this brother/sister singing duo that were trying to help the kids create an opera). I enjoyed the amount of attention that kids gave the leaders and how the leaders worked to get the attention of the kids - I had never really been able to observe this before because I was always in the middle or in charge myself. This whole week definitely gave me insight to working with kids - I'm hoping it will help with Sunday School this coming year. After another day of water games at the park, we left to travel back to our home church again. But first we stopped at this frozen yogurt place (where there were an uncountable number of flavor combos - it was called The Lite Choice so I was worried at first that it was trying to be too healthy), for a quick snack before the train. (I had coffee buzz with carmel sauce - so yummy!!)

Then we had our daily nap and pasta for dinner. After that we headed out for the World Trade Center site. It was strange to have an area in a really full part of the city empty, but I had never seen the buildings before so I couldn't really compare though. Then we continued our walk to the city and walked down Wall Street - that day I really started to feel like I was in NYC. Next, we rode on the subway to get to the Staten Island Ferry station. I loved the Ferry! The city was so pretty from the Ferry! (And it was a little like "Sex and the City")

I wanted to have breakfast here (or even go in, but it was closed)
