College Fairs and Cookies

One of my most recent volunteer efforts is my involvement in my alma mater's alumni admission network. I recently joined the VAN (Valparaiso Admission Network) and because of that I get to attend college fairs in my area that can't be covered by the admission office staff. It helps Valpo attend more college fairs. This past Monday I attended my second fair as a volunteer (I had my first one in Sept.) - it was the same college fair that I had first learned about Valpo. It was pretty neat to talk up Valpo at the same place where I first started my love for Valpo. I'm so glad that I get to give back to my school by helping other students figure out if Valpo is for them. It is also a good opportunity to reflect back on my time at Valpo. It was an amazing four years - it makes me so excited to meet kids who are about to enter that adventure!

I had a pretty good week at work. Pretty normal. I did get to teach my first Masters of Disaster class! And it was to 5th graders! It was so great to teach something new and have some older kids! (teaching this made me realize that maybe I should too prepare for disasters by making a kit etc. I felt a little bad about not having much prepared myself while telling kids that they should do it...) Also this week, I had a pre-schooler tell me that my germ drawing looked like an pineapple haha. (I'll take a picture of it sometime and post it - I've also had a child tell me it looked like a tooth) Well, actually she said "Oh, I love pineapple" out of nowhere - hilarious.

This morning, I attended a cookie making event at my church for all generations of women. I went with my grandma, mom, and two sisters. We painted sugar cookies with egg yolks mixed with food coloring (so cute and fun by the way! you get to paint with a paintbrush on cookies! its so much better than frosting them); or decorated them with sprinkles before baking as well as made these little goodie bags. The cookies were going to a local meal site and the goodie bags to Meals on Wheels. It was neat to work on a simple project with lots of different women. It was not a long event, but we made some yummy things for people to enjoy! (I don't think they always have treats at those places.) It was such a simple and fun project so we could meet some other women of our church. I hope there are similar events at later dates.

Also I decorated my cubical for Halloween:
